Anthropic Projects $70 Billion Revenue by 2028 Amidst Enterprise AI Expansion
Published:

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence developer, is projecting substantial financial growth, with expected revenue reaching $70 billion and cash flow totaling $17 billion by 2028, according to reports from The Information. This forecast is reportedly fueled by the rapid adoption of its business-focused AI products.

The company's financial trajectory indicates a significant upward trend. Reuters previously reported Anthropic's aim to nearly triple its annual revenue run rate in the coming year. The company is reportedly on track to achieve $9 billion in annualized recurring revenue (ARR) by the close of 2025, with projections for 2026 setting an ARR goal between $20 billion and $26 billion. The Information further indicated that Anthropic anticipates $3.8 billion in revenue from API sales this year, surpassing OpenAI's projected $1.8 billion from similar sales. Its Claude Code product is nearing $1 billion in annualized revenue, an increase from approximately $400 million in July.

Anthropic's intensified business-to-business (B2B) strategy is a core component of these projections. Recent collaborations include Microsoft, which has begun integrating Anthropic's models into Microsoft 365 applications and Copilot. The company has also expanded its partnership with Salesforce and initiated plans to deploy its AI assistant, Claude, to hundreds of thousands of employees at firms such as Deloitte and Cognizant. Product developments supporting this strategy include the launch of more cost-effective models like Claude Sonnet 4.5 and Claude Haiku 4.5, designed for large-scale enterprise AI deployments, alongside the expansion of Claude for Financial Services and the introduction of Enterprise Search for internal application integration.

The company's gross profit margin is expected to improve, reaching 50% this year and 77% in 2028, a notable increase from negative 94% last year, as reported by The Information. Anthropic secured $13 billion in funding in September, valuing the company at $170 billion, with potential future valuations targeted between $300 billion and $400 billion. In comparison to rival OpenAI, which expects $13 billion in revenue this year and $100 billion by 2027, Anthropic's projections indicate positive cash flow by 2028. OpenAI, conversely, is anticipating substantial losses, with projected cash burn reaching $14 billion in 2026 and mounting to $115 billion through 2029 due to infrastructure investments, according to The Information.
