Google Expands AI Mode to Spanish-Speaking Markets Amidst Global AI Feature Rollouts
Published:

Google announced Tuesday the expansion of its AI Mode feature, an AI-powered conversational search experience, to Spanish-speaking users globally. This move extends the company's natural language processing capabilities to a broader market, allowing users to engage with AI for complex queries, image uploads, and back-and-forth conversations.

The rollout to Spanish-speaking regions follows Google's significant AI Mode expansion in August, which brought the feature to over 180 countries. Earlier, AI Mode had been limited to the U.S., U.K., and India. The platform supports advanced conversational interfaces, enabling users to ask questions in natural language, refine searches through dialogue, and incorporate visual input. For subscribers of Google AI Ultra, the company has also introduced features such as requesting restaurant reservations, with future plans for additional appointment and event ticket purchasing functionalities.

This expansion is part of Google's broader strategy of integrating artificial intelligence across its product portfolio. Simultaneously, the company has announced other AI-driven developments, including the availability of conversational photo editing for Android users in the U.S. and the extension of its Google AI Plus subscription plan to 40 additional countries. This activity occurs within a competitive landscape, with rival firms also accelerating their AI offerings. OpenAI recently launched its ChatGPT Go plan, a mid-tier subscription, in India in August and subsequently in Indonesia.

OpenAI's ChatGPT Go plan offers users tenfold higher usage limits compared to its free version for prompts, image generation, and file uploads. According to OpenAI, this plan also enhances ChatGPT's ability to recall previous conversations, leading to more personalized interactions. Google's AI Mode had previously extended support to Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese earlier this month. The company differentiates AI Mode, an immersive conversational experience powered by Gemini AI, from its AI Overviews, which provide quick, AI-generated summaries at the top of search results.
