Google Expands Cheaper AI Plus Subscription to Over 40 Countries
Published:

Google has significantly expanded the availability of its more affordable AI Plus subscription plan, making it accessible in over 40 additional countries. This move, reported on September 24, 2025, broadens access to advanced AI capabilities, including Gemini 2.5 Pro, to new markets, following an initial launch in Indonesia earlier this month.

The expansion includes nations such as Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. Pricing for the plan is approximately $5 per month in most regions, building on its initial Indonesian launch at Rp 75,000 (approximately $4.50). Google has also indicated plans for promotional pricing, offering a 50% discount for six months in select markets like Nepal and Mexico.

Subscribers to the AI Plus tier gain access to Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro model. The plan also integrates advanced tools for image and video generation, specifically Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast. Furthermore, it enhances features within NotebookLM, Google’s AI research assistant, and extends AI functionalities to core applications such as Gmail, Docs, and Sheets. The subscription package also includes 200GB of cloud storage.

This strategic expansion by Google occurs shortly after competitor OpenAI introduced its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan to Indonesia. While both Google and OpenAI offer premium AI subscription tiers priced at approximately $20 per month, the introduction of these more economical plans reflects a broader industry trend. Analysts suggest this approach aims to penetrate markets where the higher subscription cost may be prohibitive, thereby increasing the global base of paying AI users. Notably, India, where OpenAI first launched its affordable ChatGPT Go plan, was not included in Google’s reported list of new markets for its AI Plus plan.
