Google's proposed $32 billion acquisition of cloud security firm Wiz has received clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) antitrust review, marking a significant step forward for one of the technology sector's largest transactions.
Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport confirmed the DOJ's approval during a Wall Street Journal event on Tuesday, as reported by Reuters. Rappaport noted that while the antitrust clearance represents a key milestone, the deal still requires further procedural steps before it can officially close.
This acquisition is poised to significantly bolster Google's cloud security portfolio, an area of increasing strategic importance for enterprise clients across various sectors. For industrial operations, including advanced manufacturing, logistics, and global supply chains, robust cloud security infrastructure is critical for protecting data, operational technology (OT) systems, and intellectual property as more processes migrate to cloud environments.
The transaction follows a period of renewed negotiations. Google initially approached Wiz with an acquisition offer of $23 billion in 2024. Wiz subsequently declined this initial offer, with CEO Rappaport indicating at the time that the company aimed for a higher valuation. Acquisition discussions were revived in the initial months of 2025, culminating in Google's March announcement of the definitive $32 billion agreement to acquire Wiz.
Bloomberg News had previously reported in June that the deal was undergoing an antitrust review by U.S. authorities. With the DOJ's clearance now secured, the acquisition is anticipated to finalize in early 2026, according to information previously reported by Reuters. The integration of Wiz's cloud security platform into Google's extensive ecosystem is expected to enhance Google Cloud's capabilities in securing complex enterprise environments, responding to growing demand for sophisticated cybersecurity solutions in an interconnected industrial landscape.
The deal underscores the intensifying competition and consolidation within the cloud security market, driven by the escalating volume and sophistication of cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure and business operations globally.
