OpenAI Prepares for DevDay 2025 Amid Expanded Portfolio and Increased Competition
Published:

San Francisco, CA – OpenAI is scheduled to host its third annual developer conference, DevDay 2025, on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Fort Mason in San Francisco. The company anticipates over 1,500 attendees for what it describes as its “biggest event yet,” featuring key announcements, executive keynotes, and a fireside chat between CEO Sam Altman and former Apple designer Jony Ive.

This year's DevDay occurs as OpenAI has broadened its operational scope beyond its initial offerings of ChatGPT and an API business. The company is reportedly developing an AI device, a social media application, and an AI-powered browser, according to recent court filings and reports. This expansion positions OpenAI to engage with markets traditionally dominated by technology giants such as Apple, Google, and Meta.

The event also takes place amidst an increasingly competitive landscape for AI model development. Over the past year, models from companies like Anthropic and Google have demonstrated enhanced capabilities for coding tasks and web design. This competitive pressure has prompted OpenAI to release improved AI models at more accessible price points. Furthermore, Meta's establishment of Meta Superintelligence Labs indicates an emerging contender for AI talent and innovation.

During its inaugural DevDay in 2023, OpenAI unveiled the GPT-4 Turbo model and Altman introduced a vision for a marketplace of AI agents, referred to as the GPT Store. The 2024 conference focused on developer upgrades, including an API for AI voice applications. While no specific announcements are confirmed for DevDay 2025, industry speculation includes updates on the AI-powered browser, progress on the AI device developed with Ive, and potential enhancements to the GPT Store.

The conference agenda includes an opening keynote from Sam Altman at 10:00 AM PT, which will be live-streamed and is expected to detail new announcements and future AI development. For in-person attendees, additional sessions include presentations from industry figures such as Cursor co-founder Aman Sanger and Andreessen Horowitz Investing Partner Kimberly Tan, alongside various OpenAI employees. The day will conclude with a “Developer State of the Union” featuring OpenAI President Greg Brockman and a “Closing Fireside Chat” between Altman and Ive, both of which will be posted on YouTube later that day.
