Pinterest announced on Monday new AI-powered upgrades aimed at enhancing user personalization for its boards. The updates include "Styled for you," an AI-driven collage feature, and "Boards made for you," a system for personalized board curation.
The "Styled for you" feature allows users to create outfits by combining saved fashion Pins with AI recommendations. Users can tap an item within a collage to swipe through AI-suggested saved pins for mixing and matching. Concurrently, Pinterest is initiating tests for "Boards made for you," which are personalized boards generated through a combination of editorial input and AI-powered suggestions. These curated boards, designed to feature trending styles, weekly outfit inspiration, and shoppable content, will appear in user home feeds and inboxes.
These new AI functionalities are initially being tested in the U.S. and Canada, with a broader rollout anticipated in the coming months.
According to the company, the objective of these AI features is to transform Pinterest boards from organizational tools into more personalized platforms for exploration, shopping, and finding outfit inspiration. This initiative aligns with Pinterest's stated goal of positioning itself as an "AI-enabled shopping assistant," a strategy articulated by its CEO during a second-quarter earnings call. The platform has previously integrated AI for functionalities such as recommendations and visual search.
In a related development, Pinterest has also outlined plans to manage AI-generated content on its platform. In April, the company announced its intention to label AI-generated and AI-modified images. It further introduced user controls designed to limit the visibility of AI-generated Pins within individual feeds.
Beyond the AI experiments, Pinterest will introduce new tabs for board organization. These tabs, accessible from user profiles, will globally roll out in the coming months. The "Make It Yours" tab will offer recommendations for fashion and home decor based on saved Pins, while the "More Ideas" tab will suggest related Pins across diverse categories like beauty, recipes, and art. An "All Saves" tab will provide users with easy access to their previously saved Pins.
