Voice AI company Wispr has announced an additional $25 million funding round led by Notable Capital, bringing its total capital raised to $81 million. This latest investment follows a $30 million round in June and reflects continued market traction for its dictation application, Wispr Flow.
Wispr Flow has reportedly achieved significant growth, with the company stating that an average user writes over 50% of their characters through the app after three months of usage. The company has also expanded its reach to 270 of the Fortune 500 companies and secured 125 enterprise customers. According to Wispr CEO Tanay Kothari, Wispr Flow has experienced 40% month-over-month growth since June, maintaining a 70% retention rate over 12 months for its user base, which has reportedly grown 100x year-over-year.
The funding round saw participation from Steven Bartlett's Flight Fund. As part of the investment, Hans Tung of Notable Capital will join Wispr's board as an observer. Kothari stated that the new capital will support international expansion and the development of new product opportunities, including the recruitment of machine learning talent. The company plans to launch a beta version of an Android application by year-end, with a stable release anticipated in Q1 2025, expanding beyond its current availability on Windows, Mac, and iOS.
Wispr aims to enhance its technology by developing proprietary voice models for personalized Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR). This initiative seeks to reduce post-dictation editing for users. The company claims its current error rate is approximately 10%, compared to 27% for OpenAI's Whisper and 47% for Apple's native transcription, according to company data. While currently focused on consumer applications, Wispr is piloting its technology through a closed API with select enterprise and hardware partners, with plans to open it to more developers next year. Hans Tung noted that Wispr is "trying to be more than a dictation app and become like a voice-led operating system that can initiate workflow automation." The competitive landscape includes other dictation applications such as Willow, Aqua, Monologue, Typeless, Talktastic, Superwhisper, and Betterdictation.
